VCA2022

This triptych piece represents my experience with bipolar disorder. Through my time in the hospital after my first episode, each piece explains different stages throughout my journey. Going through mixed emotions, feeling alone and isolated, help was always there to help me back on my feet.

As you walk into an unfamiliar store, your heart beats faster than usual. An employee greets you at the entrance which startles you since you did not recognize them there before because your mind was looking for an escape route. You decline the employee's help and continue walking through the aisles. The feeling of judgment and staring from the public overwhelms you but in reality, it is all in your head. You find an aisle with clothing your size and style. Walking over to the mirror, you bring a shirt up to your chest to imagine yourself wearing the garment, but the mirror betrays you, as you tear up from the sight of your curves peeking from the edges of the shirt. Quickly, you put the shirt back on the rack and sprint to the exit, desperately trying to escape the false reality your mind is playing on you.
