Among the trees in Northeastern Ontario is where you will find artist and nature enthusiast Danyel Wheeldon. The environment that surrounds Danyel greatly influences her work. When not practicing her acrylic painting or pyrography, she will often spend her free time out in the woods or on a lake searching for new sources of inspiration. You can expect to see Danyel fully immerse herself in her wilderness artworks as a full time artist.

This piece is part of an exploration delving deeper into my love for nature, especially for wilderness close to my home. "Alongside the Black Bears" was taken from a photo I took at a local lake, and meant to represent the time taken to slow down and appreciate the forest.

Anyone who knows me knows I love to work small, spending much of my time on details that may go overlooked by others, and this piece was the perfect opportunity to do so. This piece is recreated from a photo I took while out hiking in the area. I was drawn to the obvious change of the seasons, and thought this photo would be a good test of my ability to work small.

Forest Dweller

Forest Dweller

These four pyrography pieces part of a series called "Forest Dweller." Pyrography, or wood burning, is one of my favourite mediums to work with. The act of using a very hot metal tool to make marks in wood surfaces is an incredibly interesting experience. These pieces are a small description of wildlife I experience up in Northern Ontario, and how special it is to see them.

Rushing Waters

This piece was recreated from a photo I took at Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Park. The park is a hidden gem located just outside of where I live, and I have been to it many times throughout my life. Each time is different from the last, in a sense that the wilderness is ever growing and ever changing, just the same as the water that flows through the park.
