To think we don’t have very much to relate to and learn from animals is a disservice to our organic nature. This is something that Toronto artist, Willow Trojanowski strives to communicate throughout his work. At 22 years old, Willow is a queer, transgender visual artist who works mainly sculpturally with various clays, fibers, textiles, paint, 3D printing and whatever else he can find to create pieces that question reputation and discuss identity. He explores the existence of community, otherness, and overall societal expectations that weigh upon us. Sharing his experience in highly gendered and heteronormative spaces like contact sports is something that greatly influences his creative process. One of his biggest motivations is to make art that comments on the reputation of something regardless of its natural state of being, something that far too often applies to trans people. Willow nurtured his passion for creating while attending Inglenook Alternative Community high school, an inclusive art school. He went on to complete an Advanced Diploma in Visual and Creative Arts at Sheridan College in Oakville.
